Why choose a Nefertiti Lift?
The Nefertiti Lift is a non-surgical treatment using Botulinum Toxin to help define the jawline, soften prominent neck bands and create a subtle lifting effect through the lower face and neck.
The treatment works by relaxing specific areas of the platysma – the broad, thin muscle that extends from the neck into the lower face and can exert a downward pull on the jawline.
By carefully treating this muscle, we can reduce that downward pull and allow the muscles responsible for lifting the face to work relatively unopposed, creating a smoother neck and more defined jawline.
What is a Nefertiti Lift?
Named after Queen Nefertiti, who was famous for her elegant neck and defined jawline, the Nefertiti Lift uses carefully placed Botulinum Toxin injections along the lower jawline and into selected areas of the platysma muscle in the neck.
Unlike traditional Botulinum Toxin treatments that focus on lines in the upper face, the Nefertiti Lift targets the muscles of the lower face, jawline and neck.
The aim is not to dramatically change your appearance, but to create a subtle improvement in the contour and definition of the lower face.
How does the Nefertiti Lift work?
The platysma is a large, superficial muscle extending up the neck and attaching around the lower face and jaw.
As we age, the activity of this muscle can contribute to vertical neck bands and a less defined jawline. By strategically relaxing selected areas of the platysma with Botulinum Toxin, its downward pull is reduced.
The result can be a smoother-looking neck and a more defined lower face and jawline – without surgery.

Who is a good candidate for a Nefertiti Lift?
The Nefertiti Lift is particularly suited to people who have a strong or overactive platysma muscle, visible neck bands and early loss of jawline definition, while still having reasonably good skin elasticity.
It is important to understand that not all loss of jawline definition is caused by muscle activity. Loose skin, volume loss and changes to facial fat and bone can also contribute.

What happens during treatment?
After assessing your facial anatomy and muscle movement, small amounts of Botulinum Toxin are carefully injected at selected points along the jawline and into the platysma muscle of the neck.
Treatment is relatively quick and involves minimal discomfort. There is generally little to no downtime, although you may experience temporary redness, swelling or bruising around the injection sites.
When will I see results?
The effects develop gradually as the Botulinum Toxin begins to relax the treated muscles.
You will generally begin to notice changes over the following days, with the result becoming more apparent over approximately two weeks. A large phase 3 clinical trial assessing Botulinum Toxin treatment of platysma prominence evaluated its primary results at Day 14 and found improvements in both neck bands and jawline definition.
How long does a Nefertiti Lift last?
Results are temporary and vary between individuals.
As with other Botulinum Toxin treatments, you can generally expect the effects to last around 3–4 months, although this will depend on the product used, your individual muscle activity, dose and response to treatment.
Treatment can be repeated to maintain your results.
Will a Nefertiti Lift get rid of jowls?
This is an important distinction.
A Nefertiti Lift can improve the appearance and definition of the jawline when downward muscle pull is contributing to the problem, but it does not remove excess skin or replace lost facial volume.
If your jowling is predominantly caused by skin laxity or volume loss, I may recommend another treatment – or a combination of treatments – to achieve the best result.
Research on the Nefertiti technique found significant improvement in platysmal bands, while changes in jowls and some other components of lower-face ageing were less clear.
Can I combine a Nefertiti Lift with HArmonyCa®?
Yes. In fact, these treatments can complement each other particularly well because they address different contributors to lower-face ageing.
The Nefertiti Lift uses Botulinum Toxin to reduce the downward muscular pull of the platysma, while HArmonyCa® provides structural support and stimulates collagen production.
For suitable patients, combining the two allows us to address both facial support and muscle movement for a more comprehensive lower-face and jawline treatment.

Are there risks with a Nefertiti Lift?
As with all Botulinum Toxin treatments, temporary redness, swelling, tenderness or bruising can occur at injection sites.
Treatment of the neck requires a thorough understanding of facial and neck anatomy. Uncommon complications can include unwanted muscle weakness or asymmetry, and difficulty swallowing has been reported following Botulinum Toxin treatment of the platysma.

Is a Nefertiti Lift right for me?

RELFYDESS® is a prescription medicine containing relabotulinumtoxinA.
